Rubbel
(2025 - video)
The animation video Rubbel is created using a photocopier. By copying an image, and then copying the copy, the image gradually loses more and more of its original information. In the end, only noise remains. By scanning each image and assembling them into an animation at 25 frames per second, one can see the image dissolving. All images are from the ruins of Gaza.
The idea comes from Jean Baudrillard’s book Simulacra and Simulation, where a simulacrum is a copy so far removed from the original that it becomes something entirely new and unique—separated from reality, yet still real.
