Pass the Pigs
(2025 – 20x20x30)
This project consist of bronze sculptures based on the game Pass the Pigs. The dice are shaped like pigs, and points are scored based on how they land. The maximum score is achieved through a double snout-and-ear position, which is a highly unlikely throw. The small pig-shaped dice have been 3D-scanned and scaled it up to approximately 20 cm in size. After this, the rendering have been 3D-printed, and used to create molds for two bronze sculptures. The work explores how we confuse luck with skill and celebrate it as a virtue. Luck and misfortune influence our lives far more than we like to admit. Capital values, for instance, are shaped by supply and demand, but this is also an arena for speculation and games, often placing societies or individuals in distress. Those who succeed are portrayed as smart, while losers are seen as foolish, even though outcomes are often based on luck and chance. The pig also serves as a symbol of capitalism, profit, and nepotism. The ear-and-snout pose is both absurd and alluring, but the work can also function as actual dice and be rolled by theaudience, destroying any floor.
