Prime Cowboys
(2024 – 100x250 cm)
This work i based on photographs from the 1950s depicting children in full costume playing dead cowboys. They are removed from their original context and placed against solid backgrounds in primary colors. Primary colors were used by the modernist Bauhaus school as a foundation for a societal utopia but have later become a color palette associated with the toy industry. Here, a nostalgic macho culture is mixed with a utopian modernist theory from the interwar period. The boys are trapped in the ideals and history of the past.
